NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 1 8 - No names of those suspected of complicity in the post-election violence were read to President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga by ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo prior to his public announcement.

A statement from State House Nairobi clarified that contrary to the story appearing on the Saturday Nation titled 'How Ocampo read secret list in State House', no such meeting took place in State House between the ICC chief prosecutor, the President, the Prime Minister and members of the special Cabinet Committee on the International Criminal Court led by Internal Security Minister Prof Saitoti as alleged in the story.

The statement further clarified that the ICC Prosecutor has never visited State House since he commenced his investigations into the post-election violence.

"We take great exception to the publication of false stories that can create wrong impressions and perceptions thereby misleading members of the public," the statement said in part.

Questioning the motive behind the publication of the false story by the Saturday Nation, the statement called for upholding of professionalism and objectivity in journalism.

It also urged media houses to liaise with the Presidential Press Service and authenticate stories relating to State House before going to print.

The statement demanded for a retraction and the publication of the true version of the events of December 1 which are in the public domain in order to correct the erroneous perceptions that have been created by the Saturday Nation's story.
