Nairobi: Police arrest woman, seize Sh450,000 drug

Airport police have arrested a Zambian woman as she allegedly tried to traffic narcotics valued at Sh450,000.

The middle-aged woman, who was headed for Harare, Zimbabwe Thursday morning, was about to board the plane when police detected the drug.

They reportedly found 5.8kg of mandrax on her after a search. The anti-narcotic detectives arrested and detained her at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Head of Anti-Narcotics Unit Judy Adhiambo said they are investigating the origin of the drug. The woman will appear in court this Friday to face drug trafficking charges.

Known as methaqualone, mandrax is a sedative-hypnotic drug similar in effect to barbiturates, a general central nervous system depressant.
