Raila calls for end to ODM, PNU rivalry

By Isaiah Lucheli

Prime Minister Raila Odinga has called for an end to supremacy wars between politicians in the Coalition Government to facilitate implementation of the new Constitution.

The PM noted that unity among leaders was important as most of the sections of the new Constitution could be implemented ahead of the set deadlines through teamwork.

"There are specified time lines in the implementation of the new Constitution. But we are likely to stay ahead of all those deadlines if we carry on with the spirit seen during the campaigns," said Raila.

The PM also asked Kenyans to support the new Constitution regardless of how they voted during the referendum and appealed to the international community to help during implementation. Raila was speaking during a meeting with US Ambassador Michael Ranneberger at his Karen residence.

"The work of reconstructing this country has to begin now and it will require a bipartisan approach. We will not rebuild or accomplish anything if we face the future as ODM or PNU," the PM said.

Mr Ranneberger congratulated President Kibaki and Raila for successfully campaigning for the new Constitution and resolving the impasse over the Leader of Government Business in Parliament.

"Things look great and positive for Kenya. I appeal to you Mr Prime Minister not to lose the momentum," the ambassador said.
