Five people shot dead in Nairobi

By CYRUS OMBATI

Five people, including four suspected thugs, were killed in separate robbery incidents in Nairobi.

In one of the incidents, a victim of carjacking was shot dead in a scuffle with the gunmen before police struck along Kiambu Road.

The victim was identified as only Ng’ng’a and was riding in his cousin’s car when two armed thugs hijacked their car on Saturday night.

Police who had been tipped off of the incident pursued them and struck near

Runda estate prompting one of the thugs to shoot Ng’ang’a in the chest killing him on the spot.

His female cousin was not injured in the dramatic shooting incident.

Police said one of the thugs was killed at the scene of the shooting and another one managed to escape on foot.

Officers from the Special Crimes Prevention Unit had been tipped off of the carjacking and tracked down the gunmen before the shootout happened. A hunt on the runaway gunman was underway yesterday.

Another shooting incident

Another shooting incident happened in Kingston slums where police shot dead two suspected thugs and recovered a pistol loaded with six bullets.

Witnesses and police said the men were preparing to rob a shop in the area when the shooting occurred on Saturday night.

The incident caused a stampede in the slum that left several residents with bruises.

In Kawangware estate, police said they shot dead one suspected thief after he tried to stab an officer who was on patrol on Saturday night.

The deceased man’s four accomplices were arrested in the operation that was mounted after locals complained of being attacked and mugged.

Pedestrians using Salim Road had complained that thugs armed with knives were attacking and robbing them of their valuables.

Undercover officers were then sent to the area and were attacked prompting the shooting, police said.
