Deputy prime minister Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday urged MPs to cast aside their differences to enable the smooth implementation of the new constitution.
In an apparent reference to the squabbles in the ODM party over the membership of the implementation committee, Kenyatta who is also the KANU chairman said the process should be all inclusive as the constitution was meant to serve all Kenyans.
Kenyatta was speaking in Kamahuha in the larger Murang'a district in Central Province for a church funds drive flanked by more than 7 MPs. He called on the MPs to forge a united front as parliament prepares to pass crucial legislations to bring the new constitution into full effect.
The ODM party has threatened to lock out MPs who campaigned against the new constitution from the implementation oversight committee but Kenyatta is instead calling for the accommodation of divergent views saying the process of implementing the new constitution ought to be all inclusive.
He said the country was at a critical stage where sobriety and demonstrated goodwill were necessary to ensure the new constitution was fully enacted and Kenyans continued to co-exist in peace.
President Mwai Kibaki and Prime minister Raila Odinga are set to chair a joint PNU and ODM meeting on Monday at the KICC to chart the way forward and finalize plans for the promulgation of the new constitution set for August 27.
